Orphan White

Rachel DolezalRachel Dolezal, the white-black woman, is rather interesting. When I was young, people had to be gay to be that interesting. Now when someone comes out as gay everyone is “Meh, what else you got?” I mean, I don’t even know her but to be fair, some of the crap she’s pulled makes me raise my eyebrows that’s for sure. Although I’ve pulled some crap in my day too. She has significant identity issues, but she hasn’t Duggared any children or set up any bogus charities or lied us into a war.

Apparently part of her job was to be black. She could have been better at that. Now she’s been fired. I wonder if she was good at the rest of her job.

I knew a guy who spoke with a fakey British accent all the time. He was from Arkansas. We ignored it. It was just his way. He was definitely off in the head, but that’s okay too. We are all off in the head more or less. He was more. He didn’t apply for work at the British consulate.

I knew a black guy who was adopted young and raised by a Jewish woman in a white neighborhood. She made the best cheese blintzes I ever had. He tended to hide the truth from other blacks when we were out shooting pool and such. What he knew about urban black culture he mostly learned on TV, just like me.

Maybe this Dolezal woman has some emotional issues. If so I hope she can cope with it. Society sure can’t, especially while we are struggling through this era of super-sensitive navel contemplation. Meanwhile life is all too short and we each have to find our own path through it. We’re all kind of stunned that we are really here and this is really happening. Yes she lied on her resume, and that caught up with her. Lots of people lie on their resume, not always as bad as her of course, but some are worse. Sometimes they wind up paying for it. Sometimes not. Yes her misrepresentations are shameful, but not “cut off her hair and chase her down the street naked while ringing a bell” shameful. We should just say “No no no Rachel, you can’t pretend you are something you are not. Now get fake boobs and dye your hair red or some other proper white girl color and walk around hiding the fact that you are terrified of who you are half the day.”

Maybe it’s because when I was a teen, my friends and I were all very focused on peace and freedom. Let your freak flag fly and hope for a book deal.

This is a very sad attitude and I am just wondering if you have really much of an understanding about Rachel’s situation. You are so judgmental. Why?

Mmm, calling her shameful isn’t that supportive.
